		<description><![CDATA[The 1862 laws still forbade picking the ball up from the ground (you could take hold of the ball if it was bouncing i.e. you took hold of the bouncing ball in your hands while it was above the ground).

The first laws of the RFU in 1871 allowed the ball to be picked up from the ground provided the ball was still moving. If the ball was not moving it was &#039;dead&#039;, not allowed to be picked up, and a scrummage formed.]]></description>

		<description><![CDATA[Nice history and nice explaination although I feel there may be a possibilty of more change with the changes at least at pro level - front row are increasingly athletic, midfield are increasingly bulky etc.  There may well be a case for the throwing job to be a mixed bag.  As example, my own boy plays hooker and is a decent thrower, but probably belongs on the back row once he is fully grown (early to say, mind). 

Can anyone point to any photos of a non-hooker throwing in?]]></description>
